Miami, Florida, red-light camera captures motorcycle cob struck by car

1-thumb-333x249-55032-thumb-333x249-55033A Miami, Florida, motorist whose car crashed into a Miami police motorcycle officer leading a funeral procession was caught lying when red-light camera footage contradicted his statement that before striking the motorcycle he first swerved to miss another driver, who then fled.

Fortunately, the red-light video was available which revealed no other vehicle involved. Following the crash, the driver of the vehicle, Hector Ramirez, 49, of Miami, stated that in order to avoid a collision with another vehicle he was forced to swerve into the path of the police motorcycle. Ramirez even had the chutzpah to tell the police that the non-existent vehicle was driven by an elderly person in “a sky blue or light gray colored, four-door vehicle.” Based on the false alibi, Miami police even initiated a search for the hit-and-run driver.

Ramirez faces criminal charges for providing false information in a crash report. Ramirez has also been cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

These ubiquitous red-light cameras are everywhere in South Florida. While many motorists are upset when they receive a ticket in the mail for running a red light, these cameras can provide useful evidence in determining who was at fault for an intersectional collision.
